Transition is more than a schedule change
The move into ninth grade brings new expectations, relationships and decisions. A student can have a complete class schedule and still feel unsure of where they belong or whom to ask for help.
A better bridge gives students time to name strengths, practice asking for support and picture what a good first term could look like.
Build a transition story
Try three prompts: What have I learned about myself? Who are the people I can turn to? What is one action I can take before school starts? Write the answers down and revisit them after the first weeks of high school.
That small record can include a project, reflection, goal and next move. It becomes a bridge between what the student has already built and the person they are becoming.
Keep the adults connected
Families and educators can compare notes about strengths and concerns, then make introductions to the next setting where possible. Community mentors can help a student see future options that reach beyond a timetable.
